Despite harsh criticisms over the Nagin administration’s handling of the 2007 economic development grant program, the city will hold a meeting today to meet with businesses interested in applying for 2008 grants….

Despite an economic crisis that has left funding wells as dry as Vegas in July, $1 million in grants will flow today to 13 projects in Philadelphia aimed at encouraging more public access to two rivers long monopolized by private industry – the Schuylkill and the Delaware.

The increases in the social grants by Social Development Minister, Zola Skweyiya will bring significant relief to impoverished families who are struggling under soaring food, fuel prices and interest rates amongst the poor.

Twelve organizations in Ross, Pike, Jackson, Highland and Vinton counties are the recipients of the grants.

The OU Cancer Institute awarded seed grants to three researchers this month to fund new cancer research. A seed grant provides researchers with monetary support that allows them to experiment and collect data supporting their hypothesis, said Dr. Robert Mannel, director of the OU Cancer Institute.

For nearly 100 years, Deering’s oldest town records sat in a storage room, withering away. Three grants totaling nearly $23,000 will help preserve those records, which date to the town’s settlement in 1774.

The Children’s Theatre Company and Minneapolis playwright Aditi Brennan Kapil are two of seven recipients of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts supporting the development of new plays.

IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area members narrowed down the five recipients of their $112,600 grants.

At its semi-annual meeting held Oct. 8, the Garrison Diversion Recreation Committee awarded a total of $77,815 in matching recreation grants.
